(please excuse my poor spelling...or not if I am doing right) I play/DM a DND 4 group with Kenshin, and he has been talking madly about this LARP he does. I'm old, pushing 40 soon, I used to do LARP with Anthony Dragoni at IUP back in the late 80's to early 90's, mostly VTM stuff, but was one of the key participants in his final sendoff,( a bunch of us outsiders played as a hunting group of Garou, and killed off a large portion of his regular Vampire players), anyway. I'm interested in what it is exactly, you all do. So, Im gonna ask a few questions: Is it really fun? How far do I have to go with the roleplaying?- I see that most of the "Nightstalkers", for instance are Vampires. Is that a requirement( because I despise Vampires... killed 8 in Dragoni's game before i was teamed up on and gutted).. Is it expensive as to cost vs reusability? Does it require alot of practice? And finally, the most important...Can I wear my glasses, cause Im friggin blind w/o them?

Yes
Not very far beyond garb.
Not at all, I don't like vampires either, but thats probably because of the hole in my neck. In the Nightstalkers there are non vampires and outside there are plenty of historical and fantasy based units and characters.
No, a set of weapons will set you back about 15$ and last you years if not misused
As much as anything else I suppose.
Yes

In regards to practice it's not like we actually practice per se, but the more time you spend on the field the better you'll get, that's to be expected. What we call practice is just us doing some scenarios and if people want to spar in between fights that's basically the practice we get, ^_^

we'd definitely love to have you come out! our group is a fair bit tamer than some of the others when it comes to practices. as nova said, we have fun more than train. and if you can't make it to every practice, noone gets mad. there aren't time sensitive story lines, so if you miss some practices, you won't be left out like you would with DnD.
we have every kind of fighter in this group, so lack of athleticism is not a problem. i'm probably as lazy as they come, so i find the less running intensive fighting forms (spear and archery).
a bunch of us wear glasses. yeah, they get knocked off every now and then, but we have yet to have any serious injuries.
if you don't want to be a vampire, we will be very very happy to have you join our group! right now, the nightstalkers are the biggest unit in the realm, but we also have Tolken based characters, Mercenaries, Orks, and Scots. we used to have pirates, immortals, and barbarians. so the options are limitless!

Yeah, you can be whatever you want so long as you are willing to put in the effort/make you character persona work with what it is, for instance the orcs paint themselves up, green or black, or various other colors, the drow paint themselves black and so on. It would be kinda weird to be like, 'yeah! I'm a centaur!' and you know... look completely human, because attaching a horse body to yourself won't go over so well on the field....

By the way, just so you know, most Dagorhir people do not refer to what we do as LARP. While it certainly is live action, we really keep the role-playing to a minimum.
The main reason we don't consider ourselves LARP is because most LARPs don't hit as hard as we do with their weapons. Plus I don't imagine that the shield bashing and shield kicking are done very much there.
But I don't knock LARPs, they sound like fun!

that's where you're wrong. I once sat in on a game of Vampire: the masquerade, and it was the lamest shit i've ever seen. just a bunch of talking in character and rolling dice. i for one, love the fact that we don't do that.

From what i understand V:tM games can range from D&D-like tabletop experience to closer to other LARPs.

I don't really know the rules to any other RP based games/organizations... I get confused when people talk about them, unless it's D&D.... Oh... or Belegarth... it's the same thing, ^_^

Well, I think I have a workable concept now. Im gonna stick with what I know. Im workin on making a Haradrim costume from scratch. My only problem seems to be the woven armor. I cant weave worth a damn, so I may just instead make a few leather breastplates( always nice to have spares). Truthfully, the only thing holding me back at this point regarding joining up with ya'll, is the boss, AKA the wife. She doesnt want me to get hurt( and she's seen the video's on YouTube where Kenshin headbutted someone). Once I work her over, im golden. On a side note, I do tend to get....weird around large groups of people. Call it a leftover from my days in the Army. Shopping at Walmart in the daytime, for instance, makes me glad I am not allowed to own a gun......

Ha ha ha, You will get bumps and bruises, but as long as you aren't plain old accident prone, you'll be perfectly fine. You work your wife over and we'll see you soon.

From what i understand V:tM games can range from D&D-like tabletop experience to closer to other LARPs. it wasn't tabletop, it was much closer to a LARP style, but the entire premise of the game and the way that they resolved conflicts by rolling dice and tallying points on a score sheet just really turned me off to the whole idea. i like our style much better, settling conflicts means actually making a kill shot on someone.
