My DMs have never tried to kill me.
However the other week all the other characters sat on each other's shoulders covered in mud and swamp flora chasing me (a doppleganger, I looked like one of the frog humanoid things that we were trying to escape from) all the way through a cave system while I (having rolled a 1 to remember how to say "it ate our sergeant") Screamed "aaabsaidcokids.... RUN!" in Aquan.
Good times were had by all.

I don't try to kill my players, I try to take them to as close to dead as possible.

in the past 4 major encounters, each time at least 4 of our 7 players die. luckily our DM cant even hit our Cleric because he has double layer dragon scale plate armor. he has raise dead twice per day so we just rest for 2 days after every heavy encounter so we can resurrect everyone

HA HA! Yeah, we did end up using a resurrection spell but that was because an Owl Bear got 2 nat. 20's against our cute little Druid in a row.

How does everyone feel about the D&D 4.0? I have the player handbook but have never been able to roll out the dice and find a group yet.

4.0 is my shit, I've always been a fan of more tactical combat. It has its faults like every edition but I love it. Can't wait for Eberron 4e
