Im unable to make gate at all. Wifey works that weekend, and cant leave the animals home alone(seriously..with 7 cats and 3 dogs, im afraid to leave for more than a few hours at a time), I should have it constructed within the next 2 weeks. Test fires will go shortly thereafter. Kenshin mentioned that hed help out with it, so I may pull his big manly muscles into it as manual labor.... my baseline: photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs006.snc1/2509_1120962867352_1325478839_2032075_8023936_n.jpgreplacing the sling with a bowl. Sling makes the shot harder. dont need that for Dag, dont want anyone hurt. bowl will cut down on the power enough. Using oak for the frame, then pine for the throwing arm. Pine, is a softer wood, which SHOULD lessen the damage done to the arm each time its fired. thinking of shaping the bowl like a snow shovel with ends turned inward. in theory, could get 2-3 1.5 lb foam rocks loaded and shot each time.....

No that would increase the damage done since the softer wood is more likely to dent and create a weak spot.
What you might want to do is put the cross bar slightly forward of the rope skein and pad it with some blue foam. Putting the cross bar forward would allow you to put more padding on the bar while still stopping the arm at the vertical position.
Scratch that you likely want to stop the arm before it reaches vertical to get arc, and arc would be vital to keep from pegging someone in the face inside the safe range. I would suggest having the projectile travel at about 7 feet at the end of the safe range.

had those, but thankx anyway. now, Ive got a question for ya'll I have enough wood for two options. 1) make one 16' catapult/onager 2) make two 6'ers the two 6'ers would be much easier to transport, but would require at least one other person to load and fire. 1 biggun would require a u-haul everytime we took it somewhere any thoughts...ideas...comments....

i vote two as well, i don't think that we have the resources in transportation space and manpower for the big one.
