planned to have them ready by Warsong, but ran into a few small snags.
1) initial testing of the firing mechanism proved to be....painful. thunk I had it locked down. was wrong for a total loss of a pair of teeth. upside is they were going to get root canaled/pulled soon anyway, so saved me some dinero on dentist bills. other upside is that the firing arm has blood stains which make it look evil...
2) after an additional 34 test shots, my wood frame is fubar. the break bar was the first to go at shot # 12, so replaced that with a back-up, but in the end, the frame was unable to keep its shape with all the bucking. tried adding a few legs which i then pounded into the ground, but that made it worse on the break bar.
3) firing arm is GTG( good-to-go). dog balls go on average 50-100 yards, AND they squeak when they hit, enabling my assisstants to locate them( thanks Taylor, Zoe, Maddie)
conclusion: have to rebuild out of a stronger, yet flexible wood. someone suggested pine all the way around, will try this out.
all this has left me rather....meh

You work fast, but I'm not sure catapults in the oak grove would be a good thing anyway.

we'll find a good place for it. events like Gates and Badon arent the best because of the big f*ing hill that no one is going to carry catapult parts up. practices are kind of pointless because the field is so small with so few fighters. i'm thinking its best saved for lothlorien, angaron, black tower, taurendor, and other mid sized realm battles

well, I had a base length of 6' with a width of 3' Im thinkin that be part o the flaw. gonna shorten the length to 5' and then width to 4 1/2' see if that helps any. plans i have are for a full sized, cant really scale it down so much. gonna run with it emplaced on wheels, hoping for an "move forward motion" as opposed to the buck around like a wild horse. have it set to tear down into 3 basic chunks. base, break and arm. only need a small crowbar to put the arm in the spring, and a socket wrench to add the break to base. Im nothing else if not a pack mule. Kenshin was explaining Badon to me, and how you need peeps to carry stuff up the hill. I may be fat and outta shape, but i can still carry a 100 lb ruck on my back and walk 2 miles...just may not be the fastest guy on the hill...and with enuff pain kilers in my system, odds are that I wont have a heart attack...  id like to be finished and rtr by 5 armies. the 1st one is always the bitch, cause it is the prototype. after that one, the next few are easier to crank out cause ya have a baseline to work from. side note, anybody that wants it, I have a book written in 19th century all about siege engines. its a hard read, but the diagrams and plans are the shizzle. it runs up at 16+ megs, so save room in yer inbox for it:) |

I was so confused when I read GTG, I should have kept reading to the good-to-go part, for a moment I was like 'GESTIGUISTE!? He's giving it to them?!'
Good luck with it, I would like to see that book, but my computer suffers mild brain damage (I dropped it)
