Does anyone in Maeth have experience with building punch shields? I had a lucky find at Goodwill the other day and got two old super wide saucer sleds with thick bottoms but short sides, basically the exact opposites of the Walmart neon green saucers a lot of us sport. I want to try a center grip but every tutorial I've seen so far has been either full foam or boogie board rebuilds.

Yeah, mine is pretty nice everyone likes it. What I did was a center pvp pipe along the inside that is fastened to each side with some pipe fitting.

I also built one with a high handle just screwed into the center of the bottom of a barrel. It works well. It's a bit small though.

i think if anyone makes a punch shield, its gonna have to be either 1) plastic barrel and small or 2) some other core and bigger.
if you use a plastic barrel as a punch i dont think you want it very big cause they do get heavy and it would suck carrying that damn thing around. so you would have to make it kind of small
and if you use a lighter core you could then make it a bit bigger.
im gonna try to make one out of a boggy board i bought at the beach.

carrying a heavy punch does suck if you cant rest it on the ground or you arent extra strong. on youtube, Grumio from the Dead Wabbits made a really good tutorial for an all blue camp pad punch shield. for one of real size you'd need ALOT of foam but it would be worth it i think. watch the tutorial and decide for yourselves if its worth making one like that because it would take alot of rolls and would probly end up costing more than an Edhellen shield

www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEUeYRbVNOk&feature=relatedGrumio makes a really good coreless punch shield. you could try to make it with the waffle style of padding but i dont think it would be as sturdy. and i would think that smaller is better because it isnt all that sturdy
