i dont know if anyone ever thought of this, but why arent we using archery target foam? i just took an old target, cut a corner off and made one of the most versatile shields i've ever seen. depending on size, its good for punch or strap, thick enough to not need core, and easy to cut through for straps. make your cuts, set your handles, and cover. it can easily be cut into any shape but its strong enough charge with. the one i made was a 2'X2'X3". i dont know if they come much bigger or how much they cost new (got mine for free) but i think it would be cheaper than some of the foam we use and its sturdier while still light. i'll have my new shield at the next practice I attend

That sounds like a pretty good idea actually, how do they hold up against kicks? I'm sure they don't taco. Do you know what kinda of foam it is? I might make a punch out of that,

In my head I imagine that bb foam/archery foam would fall apart pretty easy if used as a core. Maybe my imagination is wrong.

There are different types of foam used for archery targets, some might work and others might not, I'm going to look at some targets next time I get a chance.

the stuff i have is really thick and sturdy, better than the stuff big nova's shield is. its well bonded and is holding up good. havent had it kicked yet but because of the size i have, its not likely to ever be kicked cause its used like your small round shield, except it DEFINITELY aint round.

If it can't be kicked when it's a full sized punch shield then I'm not terribly interested... I don't really like small shields and I already have a buckler... :\

i checked the prices and for what i got, a new one is above the $100 range. i'll have seamus throw some kicks at it next practice to see how it holds. i dont even know if you could get a big sheet, maybe 2 and glue them together

Vors, is there any way you can find a picture/item description of these targets on walmart's website?

for brand new core, yeah, dont know why though. even seems unreasonable to me. for basically scrap foam to be destroyed, i dont know how they can charge more than $20 for something as big as i have
they didnt have the stuff on walmart's website. i'll have it at the next practice i go to and someone can take pics of the core

eh, i'm not sure how i feel on this type of foam either. It seems expensive and slightly unreliable. Personally I'm a fan of keeping cores cheap otherwise it defeats the purpose of finding new core.
