Hey guys you didn't have a newbie thread so I thought I would post several questions.
First I'm 23 just graduated college and was looking for something active to do. Been doing the whole table top game thing for about 9 years and I played 4 years of rugby at college, i.e. got hammered and hit into people a lot. So when I came across Dagorhir it fit nicely into both parts of my life. So enough with the quick background, now the questions.
-I live in Johnstown and was wondering if you, Indiana, was the closest chapter to me?
-How often do you practice, and since I live farther away how many times would I need to make practices a month?
-When is a good time to come out and see how Dagorhir and myself fit?
I think that covers the basic questions. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. For most of you I hope you're having a blast at Ragnarok. Hope to hear from people soon.

There's actually a group right in Johnstown, but they're a bit reclusive. For instance, we like to travel to other groups, like Pittsburgh, DuBois, Grove City, Philadelphia, Clarksburg, WV, Cambridge, OH, etc. and I contacted the Johnstown group to see if we could fight with them, too. But the leader didn't want to have anything to do with an outside group. It's a shame, really, they're so close, and I even know the guy's parents, but he only fights with Rome (a bigger group down near DC).
I'd hate to see you drive an hour to practice when there is a group in your hometown, but I also hate to send you their way, because then we'd probably never get to meet you! Plus, I don't know how much they would even welcome you to the group; their realm leader was polite in his response to me, but made it clear that he didn't want to have anything to do with us. If you want their contact information, let me know. I have their realm leader's e-mail; they don't have a website or a link on the Dagorhir boards.

Hmm that really is a disappointment. I think this is ultimately going to boil down to three options. One I could attempt the arduous, okay not arduous but an hour still sucks, journey over to Indiana but ultimately you might see me once a month twice if it's a good month.
Second I could attempt to contact the Johnstown chapter/unit (?) and then would probably dislike the game because I'm here for a fun activity not a die hard sport, I have other activities/sports I'm extremely competitive in.
Three, and this is a stretch but I could attempt to come to as many practices as I could over this summer and then read up and try to attempt to initiate a unit within Johnstown that would fall under Indiana then.
I really see positives and negatives to each. Considering I'm new but pretty darn inquisitive I'll follow experience before youth in this situation and weigh in on anyone's decisions here. Thanks for such quick feedback that's the kind of genuine attitude that lead me to post on this board and choose Dagorhir to try and participate in.

I say come up here for a practice. Try to do the same for the Johnstown group. Then join which ever group you feel better about. I am sure that even if you don't join up with us that no one will turn you away if you show up to our practices when the mood strikes you.

myself and another member of our unit both live over an hour from Indiana, we don't make it to practice much, but we get there when we can. I say check us and them both out.

jk86, I just sent you a PM containing the contact information for Johnstown's group, the Barony of Asgard.
I'm not saying that they would definitely not accept you, I'm just not sure how you would treat you. I'd hate to send you their way just for them blow you off. Like I said, he wasn't rude to me, but he didn't leave the possibility open to get together with them.
Eoin is right, we don't care if you join Maethodoron or not, you're still welcome here. Whether you join us or another group, it's still just one more person to fight with. I will say that I would be a little offended if someone lived in Indiana but joined the Johnstown group instead, so you probably should at least give them a chance before joining Maethodoron. Who knows, get in tight with both groups, and maybe they won't be so apprehensive about having battles with us. Besides, I have a buddy that lives out there, and I've been trying to get him to do Dagorhir, so that might encourage him a bit.
