There's a growing popularity for period tents. There were quite a few at Ragnarok, Magnus had one and it was quite sturdy, and easier to put up then anyone else's tent. Glaum and I are also thinking about making one for our unit to gather in. So what do you guys think about making a large-ish canvas tent for Maethodoron to gather in? It would be a good place for people to work on projects in (you know, if you have to finish your last parts of a sword at an event, or stitch a hole in some garb or something, or a place to eat a meal) This is something everyone could get involved in. Here's a few pros and cons about having a tent like this: Pros - It's a place for everyone in the realm to gather
- Weather protection
- We made so we know how to modify/repair it
- gives people a reason to stop by our camp and chat (ask questions about it tell us how awesome we are)
- Sets a great example for period camping equipment for other realms that are just starting
Cons - It's a place where everyone gathers means it's also a place where people will leave their things
- Storage/Transportation (who stores/Transports it?)
- Who will Set up/Break Down?
- getting the materials
- Takes up space at the Campsite too
Feel free to add on to this list. What do you guys think? I'd be up for sewing the thing. EDIT: There are plenty of different styles of tent to make, feel free to research. As soon as I get the link from Magnus I will post it here, he found a great site for this kind of project.

We had a wedding tent that we used for that very purpose, but we lost the connectors, so it's just sitting in our basement, useless.

I was actually thinking about that tent. You can't really lose connectors this way, as there are none to lose or they are sewn on to this kind of tent. Plus it's a bad ass Medieval tent.

If it means I am definately getting a ride to events I will set it up and tear it down. I'd still pay my share of gas and what have you I just want to be secure in the knowledge that I would have a ride, amd I love building stuff.

from what i've seen of period tents, they're very impressive and quite sturdy when set up. Panther Pavilion seems to be the main supplier of period tents, most people that i know who own a period tent either got it directly from Panther or bought a used one.

I was thinking we could make it. I'd be up for sewing it, and any woodwork involved.

do you have the heavy-duty, industrial sized sewing machine needed to do that? my understanding is that a normal machine just won't get the job done.

Magnus used a regular one, however for a lager sized tent I don't think that would cut it, and while I could use my step mom's that one 5 hours away, I was thinking about renting one.

yeah, the orks have been thinking about going historical/ fantasy by just draping heavily waterproofed scrap leather over our pre existing tents. that way everyone is responsible for his or her own tent cover, it looks good, and there are no connectors, just secure it to your tent or the ground

yeah. we're planning on getting whatever stuff that cant be sold. just alot of scrap shit that we'll sew together as we get it. kind of like a big leather puzzle. i'm looking at aroung 28 square feet of thin shitty leather. a bit bigger than my green tarp
