Here is an early start on the titles system, keep in mind the entire idea is not confirmed or finalized and this is just a rough draft of ideas and titles. www.maethodoron.com/titles.pdf

i think the Berserker title needs to be a bit stricter somehow. cause at least me, Araduin, Kenshin, Izad, Akuragano, you, and Seamus will likely have it first event these are put in effect something like you have to make the charge, survive, and kill a certain number of people

Yeah the idea was to set them at a difficult but not impossible difficulty. The majority will also have to be judgement calls (perhaps we should have a kind of council for these) because unfortunately Dagorhir isn't played on Xbox haha. But yeah good idea keep them coming please I'm sure when Mercaine gets back he will be into this.

I have a problem with this. It may encourage "rhino-fighting". for instance, perhaps a person wants a certain award, they may not take good hits in order to get that award. conversely, if someone does not want another particular person to get a certain award, they may not take hits from that person.

That is true. Its just an idea phase type of thing. How would you suggest approaching something in the same veign? I think people may realize its all for fun and not be douchebags about it, its not the SCA we don't really take this stuff too seriously.

i think the council will be the best idea. that way if anyone sees rhinoing and any other cheating, we can shoot it down. we also need to come up with a temporary "award" for rhinos. like we set them on fire

Plus I mean, to a certain extent I don't think there is anything wrong with trying to stop someone normally (ie not cheating) because you shouldn't be able to walk through.

They should be hard, and you should try to stop people, thats the whole fun of competition.

yeah. i think the awards should be something that is difficult to do, not something that anyone and everyone can eventually get. less about quantity and more about quality. like give titles when someone is known for something instead of when they reach a certain quota. for example, a few line charges does not a berserker make. but someone who charges the line often regaurdless of the scenario or death count...

Yeah thats true. But the less mechanical you get the more arbitrary it becomes. I want to find a balance there. On that note though I think the tournament ones and like the gauntlet idea could definitely stay as pure challenges like that.
Maybe a broader category like aggressiveness or defensive fighting could be judged by this council at events to see if anyone is worthy of a title or other merit. Who would be on the council though? Veterans maybe or perhaps a random selection of people?
Please consider this was just an idea, I like titles but I dislike it when its impossible (for political reasons ie the SCA) to get one I like everyone to have an equal chance because at the end of the day its just a few words added on to your name. I wanted to come up with a very much more Dagorhir friendly way of awarding these sorts of thing within our realm.

im thinking have Maeth's Unit leaders and admins as a constant board and have a random selection of veteran fighters. so atm, basically everyone on our admin boards and then do a random draw of say 5 people who have been in the sport at least a year or so.
i also like the idea of having the Tournament titles. will they be able to be one by people outside the realm?
its nice to give everyone an equal chance at an award, but at the end of the day everyone at the olympics is recognized even if they took last place. i think we should focus on everyone being capable of attaining the awards if they strive for it, but not make it too easy to get. i personally feel that if too many people get awards then they lose a certain value.

i also like the idea of having the Tournament titles. will they be able to be one by people outside the realm? Yes to Warsong, the mini event I run, can't say about the others since they were just ideas, but I think yes except for the Champion of the Grove that should be in realm only since its our opening practice thing. And I agree, not too easy but possible is the key here, possible and obtainable for those that try.

it would be nice to bring back the Bounties for a title. have the title of bountyhunter for getting the most kills and it lasts until the next season.

A lot of people in this group have voiced positive opinions about titles and awards. I was never a big fan of them, because no matter how much you try to convince people it's all just a game, if you slap a title on somebody, either they get cocky about it, or everyone around them treats them like a grand pooba and tries to schmooze with them to "get something". Even if it is made clear that kissing someone's ass gets you nothing, I think human beings are basically animals that always try to work their way up the social ladder, and earning titles is the way to do it in some circles. That's just my 2 cents; if you guys want to do it, go for it, but I won't participate.
