I think it's fun, but seriously if people start rhino hiding just to get a title that any one can earn and just clutters up their signature they have a problem....
EDIT: Just lookin' at 'em, seeing which ones I'd get.
OH! Explorer, Rag, Fight Academy, and Spring Wars I probably have survivor too... maybe, though I'm not sure, the old brains aren't quite working like they used to. :/

That is exactly what I was trying to avoid too. But there may be no way around that. I mean I don't see it like that but I see how people could.

yeah the ones that i want to get are Champion of the Grove, The Explorer, The Protector, The Berserker, maybe The Survivor and The Unstoppable once i train more with sword and board
Explorer will be easy since i go to Black Tower and Lothlorien events, not to mention Fight Academy and possibly Rag
i think explorer should be more about the number of places you go more than how far. if we just go to Cambridge 5 times, we havent really explored much, but if you go to 5 other realms, you've done some exploring. relatively near us is Ithaca, some group in Harrisburgh, Angaron, Drentha (big unit that some consider a seperate realm), Taurendor, Black Tower, and the realm supposedly at Penn State

I think many of us are already known for things like fighting style, going to many events, skilled with a particular weapon, etc. why do we need awards to validate that? we already have those reputations without them.

because I thought it would be fun, it is something that I personally see as fun and would make me want to do more with Maethodoron
unfortunately it doesn't seem to resonate with everyone the same way, some people are just stuck in like this old way that I can't even begin to understand, like we are never going to move forward if nobody comes up with new ideas, shit thats just basic history and I don't mean just about titles and shit, in general, Maeth is like stagnant
and yeah its just an idea, i'm not in charge of shit
I do agree somewhat though with all points that have been made. I still think that awarding a title or merit for certain "Feats of Strength" would be cool, like having tournaments and other things.

i think maeth is always stagnant during the summer. some new blood, better fighters returning, and possibly adding random fun like this will help us get out of the rut.
these arent so much awards to parade around like being a unit/realm leader, winning a rag tournament, etc. just kind of for our own amusement and in-realm recognition.

these arent so much awards to parade around like being a unit/realm leader, Being a unit/realm leader isn't really an award more of some sort of task you undertake. There's no pride in being a unit leader, people look at you a bit differently, but over all you are just the same as everyone else on the Dag field. i like the idea of having these little achievements. We could make a ton of them, some entirely nonsense just for the fun of it. It wouldn't be hard to add achievements pages to peoples dag profiles and have a list of the achievements they've gotten. I wouldn't go as far as awarding physical things though. That might be too much. However, I'm always looking forward to trying to get new things going in Maeth. I agree with most of the achievements, i've never been a tournament fan, but i know a ton of people are. I can't let my hatred of tournaments stop us from having them. I'd be happy to officiate over tournaments, but i probably wouldn't fight in them. I say good job Cyrus, keep up the good ideas!

i agree with nova. though i do believe that leading a realm or unit does matter because typically the leader is the most skilled and well known person in the unit/realm and should duely be awarded something for the effort that they put in. few people like working hard and seeing no appreciation or respect come of it

*peeking in, waving hello, and added my own two cents*
Awards, in and of themselves, are not bad things. Most unfortunately, they can add an extra element of politics to any group that awards them. But anytime you put more than one person in a room, you will have politics.
That said, why not try something like most highschools do in their yearbook or newspaper. At the end of the year...since most Maethodoron members leave Indiana in the spring...have a little potluck dinner and present something cute and tacky to the one voted "most likely to succeed in singles combat" or "most improved fighter" or "most suicidal combatant"? Fun, but not likely to lead to unhealthy sorts of competition.
And yes, those foolish people who volunteer to be unit leaders or host events or whatever other volunteering do need to be thanked. Just remember, those people who volunteer for those jobs do it because they want to see everyone having a good time. The best thanks that can ever be giving them the help they need to make it happen. Like an hour to help with set up and clean up.
