Just a couple of quick questions off the top of my head.
This does mean that no one goes onto the field with a Red until they pass muster right?
Is the ablity to take this on one's first time out an option or is there like a manditory blue only waiting period?
What exactly does the course entail?

I know that either Merc or Lucy will be teaching this course, it's not some kind of tested thing, it's mostly reminders for safe red usage, some other realms have already made red classes a requirement. Although I'm not sure how they will run this 'class'

I am certainly pro-red safety. I am there for pro-this course provided it is effective and does not hinder people taking up red weapons if that is their desire.

Obviously if they are still having/causing problems with a red, they will need to retake the course or something, but I don't think it will hinder them so long as someone is there to teach the course.

First off, I want to say that it's not our intent to hinder anyone's access to reds. There were a few safety issues at the Welcome Back practice that need to be addressed, and the best way to do that is to have a mandatory class on the use of reds.
I figured I'd be teaching the course, as I probably have the most experience with reds of people who commonly come out to practice. By course, I mean a 5-10 minute lesson mostly about safety. So yes, without taking the 'course' you won't be able to go onto the field, but if you take the course your first day you should be good to go.

I'm all for training people to use red weapons.

yeah, so basically its all about safety, not technique or will there be a mix?

I know I'm not the greatest red weapon fighter, but I do know a few techniques which I'd be more than glad to pass along to some of the newer fighters. So it'll be mostly safety, but some technique as well.

I know it was not your intent to hinder anyone's ability to use a red I also know that anytime new policy get implemented it can be an unintended side effect unless thought is put into making sure things go quickly and smoothly. Sounds like you all have done that.

any time lucius isnt at practice and people need the course; me, merc, kenshin, Six, and occasionally Araduin (when he is ever able to come out) are all experienced safe red wieldes so we could give the safety rundown. id like to see a spear safety course too, because theres alot of new fighters that want to swing it and hit with non striking, and issues about directly tripping people that just arent safe. it would be a much shorter thing than the red safety course but i'd like people to know how to fight safely before taking the field with a weapon, especially if the weapon belongs to someone else.

Personally I would like to see instruction on safe close combat and grappling. I know that when I get in close in a press those shoulder shots seem a lot more tempting. I think last sunday I threw a couple I probably had no business throwing. I know I bapped Skree in the face once and almost did the same to one of the new guys. I think if I had more training with a wider array of close combat move I would have used a safer technique.

Maethodoron is a close combat realm, there will be a lot of people who can help you there, I don't grapple so much as shield punch though, so I'm not one of them, I can do shots that are from a close distance however, I'll be out on Sunday, perhaps I can show you some stuff.

Our Littlest of Novas will be able to teach shot technique pretty well. Me and Kenshin can show safe technique for grappling. Any time you grapple, you need to think about the safety of the target more than getting the kill. Easiest and safest thing i've found is a standard grab around the waist and pulling them down fairly gently. As I won't be fighting much over the next few weeks, id be more than happy to work with grapplers. its a fun technique that keeps battle interesting as long as its done safely

i dont think classes and approval to use any weapon is a good idea, mainly because every single person was against it and and told me it was stupid when i brang it up and tried to do it. but now its a great idea since an admin brought it up. thats all.

I didn't know that you'd suggested it? What weapon classes? That MAY have something to do with it. Some weapons do need some instruction in order to be safely used, it's become quite obvious.
