i found a new type of core we can use for shields. Its Underlayment. They use it for kitchen floors underneath tiling. The ideal thickness is 1/4". I looked at Lowes here in Indiana and cant find any. But i found 11/32", which is only 1/16" bigger, at Home Depot. The closest Home Depot is in Johnstown.
Im going to be making a trip up there hopefully this Thursday (Oct. 29th). To get a sheet of it for myself. If you want a sheet, it costs $10.00 for the whole 4'x8' sheet. If you meet me somewhere and give me the money, i can pick up a sheet for you. Just let me know if you are interested. If for some reason i dont go, Ill post here and let you know.

It's what I use for my shield core, and I love it! It's great for straps, less so for punches.

ok i know nobody posted an interest on the core but i wanted to let everyone know that i wont be making it to Home Depot tomorrow. Some things arose, insued and were overcome. I will let everyone know when i will be going so they can get their money to me if they want a sheet.
**And to remind everyone, if you dont want a whole 4'x8' sheet, get with someone else that just wants a piece of it and go half with them.
Mercaine, what do you mean by pics? You dont believe that tech ply exists?

As far as the tutorial for the shield im making, this is everything im going to try to cover: 1. Type of Core I used 2. Bolts, Nuts and Washers Used 3. Tools Needed 4. Measuring and stenciling out your core on the sheet 5. Smoothing out the edges 6. Drilling the holes for your strap and handle. (And in this case im going to be adding a strap to carry the shield over my shoulder) 7. Cutting out the foam 8. Applying the adhesive and foam to cover the core. 9. Covering the shield with a fabric cover.
(Nova will be helping me with a good bit of this, so credit will also go to her for the help)

alright my shield is done except for the cover. Im going to try to get the pictures up for the tutorial tonight after work.
I wanted to make a 28" Diameter round shield but the padding was thicker than i thought it would be and added 5" so its now a 33" diameter shield. Sucks but it was my first round shield that i ever made.
