A quarter staff is a legal weapon, it just counts ask a blue no matter how you swing it. Also, they are useless unless you practice with them, like really practice with them. A lot. But hey, they are fun weapons, and I still dabble in a bit of quarter staff work, perhaps I'll hand mine over if I remember to bring it up after thanksgiving. I'll be there on sunday though, and I'm guessing we will have a practice because there is no event tomorrow.

the only problem i have ever seen with a quarter staff was at an event. A problem arises because of the way you hold it. With both hands fisted and pointed at your opponent. Now at the event they failed it because when you hold it like this and swing, it creates a punching motion that could end up punching your opponent in the face or something. So it automatically failed for that reason without being tested. A good alternative is probably the way one of our other members made one. He cut two handles in it and padded both ends and a middle piece in between his handles.

in general, staff is fun but not very useful. id say make one just for the fun of using it. the axe isnt difficult, most of our weaponsmiths could teach you to make on. the sabers are a bit more difficult but not much. our guy Marus has some saber like swords that he could show you and teach you to make.

Yeah, now that i think of it a dag-safe staff would be kinda hard to do anything with. I did a bit of sparring with my friend in the past with a bamboo staff and i change my grip for different swings and blocks so it would be hard to do that with only two hand-holds.
As for the sabers, they wouldn't have to curve like a normal saber would. It would just be a one-edged sword with a saber-like handguard. Although slightly curved would be sweet.
Nova, I did not try your email. I tried Mercaine and Lucius because they were the two admins listed on the site's homepage.
For Sunday, will I just watch you guys since I don't have weapons or garb or anything, or will I be able to jump right in with some loaners or something? I've read the rules and know the basics of damage and areas that are and aren't allowed as well as the "Lay on" and "Kneel" calls.

For Marus' Sabers he just used my tutorial, well actually i was there to show him how i did it, but you could do it using my tutorial. Its in the Foamsmithing and Garb Forums. To make the blade curve if you want, you just have to curve all of the padding that you put on it.
As far as practice, i hope everyone comes out tomorrow, its supposed to be in the 50's and sunny. So nice weather for this far in the season. Ill be out and hope to see a bunch of people.
Rynnt, as far weapons that you can come out and borrow, we will have to see what we have when everyone gets there. See you all tomorrow.
