So I don't want anything for Christmas, but my mom is up my ass about getting her a list so the aunts and uncles and whatnot can get me stuff. What sorts of things would I need to make a couple Dag weapons? I'm lookin at probably two blue swords or maces and a red axe or sword. I also want to make a pair of leather bracers. What's a good list of supplies and amounts of said supplies to appease her?

Gift certificates to lowe's, walmart, and jo-ann fabrics. Personally when I build weapons I like to use DAP weldwood contact cement or super 77 spray adhesive, I think the rest of the realm likes double sided duct tape or carpet tape.
Ozak trails camp pads supply the blue foam that is a staple of construction (the bright blue pads not the more expensive blue green pads.
My white sword was built on a core of 3/4 inch PVC pipe, some one else would be a better source of what sort of fiberglass makes a good core.
A good sharp knife is always a plus, I like the box cutter kind with the snap off blades, replacable blades are better then a fixed blade you would have to resharpen. I have heard good things about the cutting ablity of those electric turkey carvers though.
Duct tape or fabric tape for pommels.
Thats the list from the top of my head.

Derby car weight, carriage bolts, bar stock, rope, fabric, blue foam described above, tech ply (underlayment for shields) super 77 and dap are awesome, strapping tape, yardstick, sharpies, razor knife and replacement blades, there are soooo many different cores you can use, Tandy leather is a good supplier for leather and leather working tools, then again, it's the only one I know of. You'll probably want to look at some of the tutorials ( www.dagorhir.com/gear/ ) on the dagorhir website to see what kinds of garb/equipment you want to make (and the designs) and what they call for and go off of that. Also. A sewing machine.

I also like measuring tape like you get for sewing. I find it's easier to measure around curves with it.

Awesome, thanks. Also, I was very unhappy to find that my armor idea is not gunna fly with Dag standards. I was gunna make a set of pauldrons with small deer antlers sticking out from them and just cover the tips (or possibly the whole thing) in foam, but you're not allowed to have protrusions from your armor. Crap.

I would save you're epic garb for off the field, shit tends to get real muddy, and no body every cleans their stuff as soon as they get back from an event, so it tends to get ruined.

That makes sense. Plus I think I'd be way too lazy to put the time and effort into it that would be needed for it to not look like shit. plus I have absolutely no skill or experience in making armor. or weapons for that matter. Speaking of which, is there anyone in the realm that makes weapons for newbies for a reasonable amount of money? I mean, I have no problem using the loaner stuff, it's just a matter of being able to practice at home during the week and making handles that actually fit my giant hands. hahaha

anyone in the realm who knows how to make weapons would likely do so for you, I prefer to actually teach you how. the more weapons you build at once, the less the overall materials will cost. i really have nothing to do with my life at the moment so id be more than willing to help you gather materials and teach you to make a weapon or two

Right on. The problem right now is that I can't really afford to buy the supplies to make a bunch of weapons. I can swing the cash for two, maybe three depending on the cost of supplies. And I'd be stoked if you'd teach me how to make 'em.

*everything is from Wal-Mart unless other wise specified Padding Ozark Trail Camping Pad - $5.88/roll
Adhesion Duct Tape brand Double Sided Carpet Tape - $4.99/roll 3M Super 77 Spray Adhesive (Lowes) - $9.98/can DAP Weldwood Contact Cement (Lowes) - $11.47/quart
Cores PVC - (Lowes) - $1.88/10 feet long Fiberglass Rod - Tractor Supply - $1.80/4 ft rod Blairsville - (there is a place in blairsville where we get most of it, i cant remember the name) - i think its $4 for a 4 foot rod
Weapon Cover - 2 Options Fabric Cover - (Jo-Anns Fabrics) - $1.99 - $3.99/yard Alternate - You can go to Wal-Mart to the womens hoisery section and buy black, brown, white or tan nylons. They come in those little egg things that you would get out of a bubble gum machine. They are .33/each but you get 2 nylons in each egg. You usually need 3 - 4 nylons on a weapon to hide the blue padding. I think this is the best way to go because if it rips you can just take it off and put another one on.
Any type of razor knife that you want.
Sorry its a messy list, but i wrote it in a couple minutes to try to help you fund everything you need.
