Since we've had alot of new people show interest in using reds and arching, i suggest we start running the "safety classes" again. we could simply have someone experienced in the weapon style run over the basic rules (what constitutes a good red shot, when to call shots as archer, etc) whenever someone new wants to use the weapon. or we could do like last year and make everyone take the class who wants to use it, including veterans. i think all new fighters should take both classes regardless of what they fight with so that they know what does constitute a solid red to a shield (several of them may eventually fight with a shield and need to know), and especially everyone needs to know the rules for arching. there have been alot of complaints about face shots because they dont know that head is legal for archers, javs, and rocks. also we need to specify that archers and jav throwers are now only supposed to call shots for CLARITY. If they hit a target they are only supposed to call yellow or arrow/javelin, but can call out to the person they think they hit ex) "Mason, arrow!!" and call arm/leg/torso if the target asks for clarification
in general, we need to work with the new people about not stabbing with non stabbing weapons (has been a big problem), avioding head shots, hitting hard enough (laying your sword lightly on someone doesnt count), taking hits, and safe battle tactics (not leaping over people, keeping one foot on the ground during shield kicks, etc)

i think they do need to know the rules for reds, yellows and whites. But i dont know about hitting hard enough. New people always just tap people. All we can really do is tell them to go ahead and swing harder and dont be afraid to hit people. All new people swing really light when they first come out a few times cause they think they might hurt someone. The swinging is just something new people have to get used to. You cant really make them swing harder out of no where. They will get to it when they feel more comfortable with what they are using. i think all we can really do is tell them that its ok to swing harder.
