That is entirely what the yahoo group was for but it turned out to turn into a discussion board so we moved to a bulletin board forum instead.

Yeah, announcements and things i think we'll try to make more of an effort to post on the yahoo group rather than just sticky them here. It really is just a matter of copypasta and whatnot.

I'm glad this is at least getting discussed. I really can only get on the computer maybe once a week and I know I'm not the only person in this type of situtation. A weekly newsletter is a great idea. As for disscussing things at practice, I think it would be best to have a small meeting during Sunday practice if there is a matter that is to be disscussed. That way it falls on the individual to be there and be involved. My main thing is whatever happened to texts about someone being out to practice on a random day? I know Vors wanted to have small practices whenever people felt like it and I like that. and what about weather cancellations? Will these announcements only be on the boards? Will there still be a text chain for people who have to go all the way to campus (pretty much the practice feild) to just check the boards? My point is: Don't count on the internet so much.

We will be having discussions/announcements at practices, however, we will also be posting announcements on the boards because it not fair to use only practice as a way to make announcements. Not everyone lives on or near campus, it takes a bit more time to attend a practice than it does to look up announcements on the boards, if we left announcements to attendance even senior members like Morguiness, Araduin, Kenshin, even Cyrus, would not know what the announcements were. Not everyone's schedule will allow them to go to a practice just a not everyone's ability to access internet can be counted on.
As to what happened with the texts they work both ways, if you want to be involved or you want know what it going on you can send a text you whomever it is you desire to get an answer. I have always received a text about weather cancellation if I did not already send one out to ask. I did not use only the board this summer to communicate with other members of our realm. If I had question and wanted the answer with relative expedience I would send one to Mercaine or who ever would be able to answer my question best. If you really want to become more involved with what is going on within the realm you can also call other members, text other members, or meet with others members.

Exactly Nova! It is a two way street with communication. And as far as txting goes, I'll send out txts when announcements are important but I can't keep sending out mass txts every Sunday. Cancellations and what not are fine to communicate, however, right now I have three full groups of dag people to txt which is 30 people. Not everyone in Maeth is on a Verizon plan and I do use my phone for other things, thus I have to be careful how many out of network txts I send. If Maeth wants to pay for me to upgrade to another txt package AWESOME!!! But as of now I'm still paying for the website out of my pocket and not Maeth's so when people say things like "what happened to txts" or about the website I'd like to remind them that they aren't the ones paying for these services we have set up here. We only have the ability to use en-mass what we have available to us at any given time. It's not feasible for us to send out a mass txt every time one person wants to practice in the grove. Over the summer those stopped due to attendance, I'll pick back up for events and cancellations but overall we won't see the "who's coming out" txts from me anymore.
Twitter is an answer to this problem. If you still want mass txts we can all be on a twitter group and receive updates to our cells via twitter or facebook. I would much rather send one out of network message that forwards to everyone instead of sending 30+.
And like Nova said, our numbers aren't private you can get a hold of other people in the group and ask what's going on. I have a 20 min drive to get to the practice field. It sucks when I get there and there's only two people. Which is why if I'm late i call and ask if anyone's out yet before making my decision.

my small practices are gonna be pretty much exclusively Whitmyre fighters. not to exclude anyone, but because they are spontaneous and often happen within a few minutes of deciding to have one so communicating to off campus members takes too long.

first of, i wanted to mention that i'm never really on the boards much. as was mentioned many times, it's hard to keep up with everything. i was a big proponent of this style of message board over the emails because i didn't like getting my inbox filled with announcements about random useless things. but i agree that i'm not kept in the loop now, cause i don't brave the message boards. so horrah for all the talk about new methods of notifications! second thing i felt the need to mention/correct, mercaine's statement that As far as how we chose admins they stepped up first, I talked to Araduin and Tiradora about it. is really misleading. while we wholeheartedly believe that nova and lucius will make great administrators, we very specifically told chris that if there isn't a vote that people will be angry. and that we really thought there should be a vote. so yes, he did talk to us about it. but i want to make sure that the people who are angry about the decision know that we didn't support the appointment of people without proper discussion and, if necessary, a vote. i'm a little annoyed that he spun that the way he did to insinuate that we totally approved. just wanted to clear the air about that. cause i know for a fact that there were other people interested in the position who never got a chance to voice their interest. again, i love both nova and lucius and honestly, they're two of the most loyal and reputable people i know. i think they will serve our positions 10 times better than we ever did! i've already seen some of the awesome changes they are making and i think it's great. i think that their excitement about the group has the potential to bring about a lot of good change. i just hate to see some people left out because they're on the bad side of one person.

Okay...so formal announcements like practices that are scheduled, events, calls for help with events, welcome back activites/end of the school year (and therefore the formal Maethodoron schedule), etc., will be posted on the Yahoo Egroup?
Akuragano and I are only gonig to have limited *insert annoyingly slow dial-up* internet access. The egroup is really the best way for Akuragano to keep up with what is happening.

They will be mass emailed from here and from our Twitter account. So whatever email you signed up with for this board will get mass emails of announcements. Or if you want text message notification you can do the Twitter thing.
