Hey guys look I'm getting really frustrated. I never seem to know what's going on anymore, and the reason is because the board is taking the place of actual conversations or even texts for that matter. Seamus and I do not have internet and my laptop just broke so we have been left out. I'm getting really sick of the not being included in deciding what happens in the realm, everyone is supposed to have a say, and it's turned into only the people who happen to be online for the 1 or 2 hours that something is being talked about get to have an opinion.
Also I think Nova and Lucious are fine choices for admins, but how was it decided? Was there a vote? Were they picked by Mercaine? Was anyone else asked to step up? I'm asking because I'm curious, and because I have no clue.

No one else offered to step up as admin, if people want a vote I am fine with that, if no one wants me to be an officer I will step down.
However, not everyone uses the boards, so we can't know if someone isn't using them because they don't want to or if it is because they have no internet, sorry, 'bout that.

Would an email newsletter work for you? Like if I mass mailed the latest Maeth news every week.

I think that's a good idea anyway, so long as there is news. Perhaps Admins could post 'minutes' to their meetings or the threads on the admin forums.

Other than word of mouth I don't know how else to communicate the information to people who don't frequent the boards. So yeah, if you are at least signed up and able to check your email once a week this should work out.

a monthly newsletter would be nice. most of our discussions go astray and really have no bearing on the realm anyways so we could focus on important things for those of us who forget things alot or dont have access to the boards.
its really hard to keep everyone in the realm in the know about what goes on day to day because not everyone has internet or is on the boards which was previously stated. we try to get as much info out at practices as possible, but not everyone comes out to every practice nor does everyone pay attention when we do say important stuff.
bitesize, if ur still enrolled with IUP then u have access to the computer labs any time they are open, so at least you'll still have computer access while ur laptop is broke.

As far as how we chose admins they stepped up first, I talked to Araduin and Tiradora about it. Being mostly senior members and as active as they are it wasn't much of a choice. That being said the admin positions don't really do much anyway. There isn't anything an admin does that a regular member can't necessarily do. We just tend to make the decisions because no one else comes up with ideas. Personally, i'm looking forward to having Nova and Lucius to work with as admins and really think it's going to usher a lot of excitement into the group, especially via the every other month events and with the steady heralding that will happen at practices now.
I don't think the move was a bad one, sorry that you don't have access to the internet we do our best to get news around at practices, and this message board is our main artery for communication.
With the three of us news should travel much faster to everyone, and we'll be moving forward with lots of new projects that will be talked about before hand on the boards. One of our major problems (which makes people feel excluded) is that we often don't want to wait for choices to be discussed... the Welcome Back event (call to arms) was getting discussed on the boards as well as other projects to "bring the realm together." No one says anything that actually comes to head other than the admins. Often that leads to making decisions at the last minute because of nothing coming about early enough. Sadly this makes people feel left out, but that's why we ask for participation. We can't chase after every member for their input all the time Maeth has nearly 60-some members if you count all of the in-actives. We don't have the time or resources to chase down all of them. Which is why we rely on the active members to be the voices.

i think it would be best to do most of the important discussing at practices now that we're all back but also do the newsletter for the people who cant make it to practice.

If people actually want to and will discuss that's good.

To be honest, I find reading the board very labor intensive.
Why isn't the yahoo egroup utilized. It is much more linear and no wading through conversation topics that petered out months ago.

Only a few people really liked it. I think we'll send the newsletter out via the yahoo group though. That would make more sense instead of having to send out some other type of email on top of all the emails and messages we already have to send. These boards are very labor intensive if you don't get the chance to check them almost every day. I know after two days of not reading it feels insane.

Because having more than one discussion at a time was more frustrating on that. If something is absolutely vitally important on here it is usually made into a sticky or announcement.

Also true, I did hate when i tried to make an announcement on the other board while other members were talking about their weekend eating habits.

For discussions this is far superior to a single mailing list. For announcements maybe not so much. But here is the thing if everyone is signed up we can do mass emails like I said.

Just wondering, I run a couple of those egroups and most of what gets posted is strickly meeting/event announcements, reminders of deadlines (like for newsletters or bidding on events), and a few people posting something really exciting like being given an award or having a kid or what-have-you.
