my idea is mostly good for orks, primitive elves, peasant humans, and anyone else who basically has to scrounge up makeshift weapons. i want to try to make a shield that looks like boards and planks hammered together to make a 1 minute wooden shield. sort of like this: media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/13/12106/orcs_of_the_misty_mountains_shields.gifdifferent variations could be made, humans would use a smoother, cleaner looking shield like this but ork shields would be much more jagged and harshly made

its a simple design, easily made with plywood core or all foam though the wood would make it feel realistic

yeah, but it would also make it heavier. I just finished putting the layers together for my shield. it's foam, foam, cardboard, foam, cardboard, foam, foam. and i used leftover strips from my garb for the straps (thanks for the idea, Nova). It's nice and light. now all i have to do is carve it into a shape other than a rectangle and cover it. since it's my first attempt, i might just use the brown canvas-y material i have in a box around here somewhere.

the plywood is to make it heavy. that way it feels more like a real shield. i like heavy shields cause they discourage moving it more than you have too and its hard for someone to move your shield to their whim.

true. i guess i'm into lighter stuff because my upper body strength is comparable to that of a 9-year old bookworm

haha. yeah you should have seen the tower shield i had last year. 1.2" plexiglass core punch shield and heavy as balls. saved me a bunch of times cause people were expecting to move it like a coreless shield.

can axes have striking surface on the opposite side of the normal striking side? Like, a carved axe blade on one side and a striaght sword blade on the other?

i dont see why it couldnt as long as each side was passable. its easier to just make a sword in general that has an axe head sticking off one end.

actually, i just realized that this axe head is going to tear off the first time i try to hook someone's shield. NEW PLAN! I'm gunna tear the head off, make it all a sword blade, add a stabby, and say it's the broken shaft of a spear that i threw a pomel on. I'll keep the pipe insulation on the shaft so it still passes. All in favor? All opposed? Happy New Year!!!!

depending how you make the axe head it might not tear off. we'll have to meet up some time after break and just brainstorm new weapon ideas cause i think together we could come up with some rediculously epic weapons

dude, i'm all for it. i've been so bored this week so i've just been surfing the net looking for unique weapon designs, thinking about how they could be changed into something unheard of, and not remembering what they were. hahaha. but we should definately brainstorm, preferrably more than once. btw, how's the buster sword comin along?

made another weapon today. 52" drow-style claymore. 16" handle. The blade is alot bigger than i wanted, but i used 3/4" pvc with a dowel rod inside so my blade had to be kinda thick. I think i might make a war hammer tomorrow. who knows. lol

I'll have to track you down on facebook or something so we can talk in real time. the buster sword's main sword still just needs a cover and it should be passable, but i want a leather wrap for the handle and a custom cover made for when i finally take it to events
