I was thinking that, to make it easier, we could just use iron ons to put the symbol on the cover... it would save a lot of time trying to paint it by hand

I agree with the Iron ons, and if they are to big to make iron ons out of one sheet of paper, which im assuming they will be, you buy this stuff at JoAnns that you just put right on the back of the fabric design to turn it into an Iron on.

Yes, Iron ons would be easier than painting to a point. Our symbol is going to come out at most two colors. (We need to keep it simple other wise it gets lost in translation)
Iron on's would just look too tacky, how many other realms do you see with iron on symbols on their shields.
Sorry guys, painting is the only way to go on this one.

An alternative to the iron-ons that won't take as long as painting is to sew them on. We could still conserve materials by using one piece of fabric to cut out all of them. I would be willing to make these "patches" of a sort they really aren't terribly difficult and they look more period and hold up better than iron-ons. If people still like the painted look I could also get canvas relatively cheap (compensation would be appreciated) or muslin which don't absorb paint as easily as the strechier fabric thats better for shield covers and i could paint the Maeth logo on there and then they could be sewn onto the finished covers.

Seriously guys? This is a discussion? It's a shield with a tree in it! painted with gold paint. Black muslin or any type of maybe Duck cloth will work just fine for these covers. And the symbol will be able to be painted once the cover is placed on the shield.
Between the shield and the painting when you put the cover on you put a piece of newspaper over the face of the shield, cover it, and then throw down the template.
I'll make a few out of poster board, and then slather paint on. It's how every other realm does it and it seriously is the easiest way. Don't buy anything for it, i'll take care of materials with Maeth money.
We'll get a meeting for people who want to help out together after everyone gets back and go from there. Seriously the most involvement will be people dropping off their shields and some cash if you aren't one of the workers.
HC people I'll throw in community service hours for this.

I do like Heat Bond A LOT but it won't work for something that get's hit, that balck and white belt flag with the white symbol on it, yeah, that's falling off and I need to finish sewing it on. I think painting is the way to go, it will be faster than sewing, and the iron ons, because with those you have to iron the heat bond to the colored fabric, draw out the picture you want, THEN cut it, which takes forever if you're being careful, then Iron it on to the cover. Then, if you want it to stay on, you sew it.
Trust me, I use Heat Bond a lot, you don't want to use it for this, good idea though.

Mercaine, would you really use duck cloth? that's a bit too heavy and dries slow if it gets wet, I can't imagine that would be good for the foam underneath, In my experience Broad cloth works just fine and, well... it's really inexpensive.

Haha Broad Cloth does work well and is inexpensive. I was just thinking material that will take a pretty big beating. And remember these covers are elastic-banded on so they will be able to be taken off and hung somewhere to dry! DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE DRIER! But yeah, either one, when we get the final count in for the vote you and i can take a trip and buy some materials.

Cool, I'm going to get my own stuff, because I'm making an OOT/Maeth shield cover.

Sooo... when are we gonna ACTUALLY do this?

Well... I think it's pointless to keep the poll open any longer, so I'm going to lock the voting, I did a txt message vote the other day to try to get people who haven't been on the boards. The Final Count is:
Black w/ Gold: 13 Blue w/ Green: 5
So, the black and gold have it.
We'll just need a day that we can get some sewing machines together and people who are wiling to paint. I'm most likely not free this weekend (due to some car issues). So, how about sometime next week or during next weekend? That way we can have them ready for gates by far, and then maybe we could get them ready before the ork event. It depends greatly on what day the ork event is going to be on. I'd hope that it is going to be next weekend. I'll keep people updated on what day i'll be free.
If Araduin doesn't mind I'd like to use his house if that's ok? And remember, it's not a hang out time, you just drop your shields off and leave, we'd like to get these done!

I have my sewing machine up here, if I can get a ride so I don't have to carry it that would be awesome!
